Yosemite Valley, 1995
Tenacious: tending to keep a firm hold of something; clinging or adhering closely.
1990: Agriculture building – Cal Poly. Most definitely a man’s world. In fact, in my Forestry & Natural Resources major, I was one of only about five women. After receiving my first quarter freshman grades (we won’t even go there), I went to my college advisor’s office hours. He looked annoyed that I was bothering him, so I hesitantly entered his tiny office and sat down. He looked at my file and point-blank asked me what I was doing in the major and then said, “Shouldn’t you be working at Macy’s?”
A few months later, I went back into his office for a follow-up meeting. Again he seemed annoyed, but this time, I walked right in & plopped myself in the chair. He saw that I had made honor roll and said, “Well, aren’t you tenacious? Do you even know what that means?”
Oh, sir, you had NO idea how tenacious I could be and still am 😏…in honor of he who shall not be named, I have created my “Always Growing” series. In this series, I bring you tenacious fellow women that I have had the privilege of working alongside, raising our children, sharing laughs, advocating for others, calling out inequities, and lifting each other to new heights.
