Why is this Always Growing feature a young woman, you ask?
From the first time I met Elyse a few years back, I was impressed with her fearlessness.
I don’t know about you all, but performing songs you have written, playing piano & guitar, AND singing in different languages in front of a crowd would scare the daylights out of me.
“I’ve been singing forever but I started taking piano lessons when I was 4 and guitar lessons at 9 years old. My first gig was at the grand opening of Etto Pastificio the summer after 7th grade!”
She is an old soul, which is evident in her presence on stage, along with the wit & smiles she always offers her audience.
As a high school senior, Elyse balances her school work (my son tells me she is friendly in their AP class & an excellent student) and doing what she loves with weeknight & weekend gigs.
Elyse’s word for 2022 is “ACCOMPLISHED,” & when I asked what makes her smile, she said, “A lot of things make me smile: playing music for family and friends, seeing my dog Archie smile when we go on walks or runs, and learning new things, be it in school or extracurricular.”
And I just love this answer about her favorite city: “I really liked Miami when I visited because it was such a party city with unique bright colors and a Latino flare. Immediately, I thought that if I were a city, I would be Miami.”
She’s an inspiration for all of us trying to make time for ourselves and find what lights us up daily.
I can’t wait to see where your journey takes you, Elyse. We will be here cheering you on.
